BF2 patch wont run

Yes that probably will work but, that doesn't solve the 1.5 patch not running. If I get the game running ill have no servers so its useless.

Im going to wait till I get win 7 and see if that helps.

When you say 1.5 patch not running, do you mean that BF2 won't launch after installing 1.5, or do you mean you can't get the 1.5 patch to install?  Can you get BF2 to run in 1.41 (but most of the listed servers are in red because they're running 1.5)?  If the patch won't install, you don't have enough free space on your C: drive to allow it to unpack and install.  Hopefully you weren't trying to get fancy and partitioned your main drive to only have just enough for windows and primary programs on C: and the rest for program installs.  Generally this works fine, but only if you don't underestimate the amount of space windows and programs take up.  If you have less than 1 Gigabyte on your C: drive, you're eventually going to run into problems with virtual memory usage, the unpacking/installing of large patches being one of them.  Good luck.

NB:  keep in mind that it can actually take a minute or two, depending on your computer specs, for the 1.5 patch to even initialize.  If it seems like nothing is happening, just give it up to a few minutes.  The only time I've ever had a patch problem was because they weren't installed in the correct order, or because my C: drive didn't have enough free space to unpack and execute.  At a minimum I'd have 1G free, if not 2 gigs.

Well, you got plenty of space, and unless something is running in the background (service or startup folder item) that is preventing the 1.5 patch from launching, it sounds like you have a corrupted patch that won't launch.  After unpacking/unzipping, the patch is BF2_Patch_1.50.exe with a size of 1.92G.  I know you said you have slow speeds/bandwidth but there may be nothing to do about it except to try redownloading it.  Make sure you're not controlling virtual memory settings and have it throttled down to less that a couple of gigs--set it to at least 5G for the purpose of patch installation or let windows take care of it.

I highly recommend doing a manual, clean uninstall of all BF (which will include modifying the registry), reinstall, making a note of the last patch installed from the DVD, then apply the remaining patches in order.

If you've tried everything suggested previously, unless someone else has an idea, I would say reinstalling Windows is your next step (or as you said, waiting for your Win7, which will have its own issues).  Good luck.

yes iv tried everything ill wait till i get win 7 the 1.5 patch has worked on other pc's ill maybe try downloading it.

Your install is corrupt. Several people have pointed out that you need to patch it with 1.41, but you keep referencing 1.4 in this thread. Do not patch it with 1.4. Patch it with 1.41. 1.41 is a full patch - it will patch it from any previous version. Then patch it with 1.5.

You need to verify your patches are not corrupt. The easiest way to do this would be to check the md5 hash.

1.41 should have an md5 hash of 2D927E2FED9C349F99DD617ABFCA12E2
1.5 should have an md5 hash of 513a415dbca69f995e866a9dc7cbd305

You can check these with a program like winmd5. If the hash doesn't match, you need to re-download that patch.

I've noticed you keep saying your 1.5 patch has worked on other computers in the past. just because it worked before does not mean it is not corrupt now.
Download a fresh 1.41patch and A fresh 1.5 patch.
make sure to clean all the BF2 out of your computer before starting again.

It's just one of many programs that can provide you with the md5 hash to verify the file is not corrupt. You can google it.

Yeah, true. Ill retry BF2 when I get a new OS.

Problem solved...... all I had to do was download the patches and they worked!

I kept the patches for years and reinstalled bf2 last years and the patches where corrupted. Don't know if that is your case or not but I would try to re-download them and see if that helps.
