| My game has been off lately, its not the ping but the scale of players on the server I think is what really throws it out of wack. If the server has less then 16 players my system does ok, but when the server starts toppling near 30 my machine gets all choppy. There are a few reasons for this mainly due to my CPU which is a FX-53 (2.4GHZ single core), I only have 1 GB of ram *which I never bothered upgrading to 2 GB beats the hell out of me why not* I was running the X800 XT PE up into January when I went and picked up the highest video card for AGP which was VisionTek - ATI Radeon HD 3650 1GB DDR2 AGP. With this card I've been able to max all of my video settings. Sadly my machine is a Shuttle XPC and it can only handle 2gb max of ram.
I am currently unemployed so upgrading isnt in the very next future as a new machine would end up costing me around $1,000 or less to part together.
What do you guys suggest that i do? I enjoy gaming with this group but just playing the support class with a high death/kill ratio this just keeps frustrating me.

If you have updated your OS to service pack 3 (XP) etc.. then you may try stepping back to one of the older service packs and just load the security updates.
Also try turning off your firewall/security software before you start the game.
If you have tried tweaking the system ie stopping all processes that are not necessary (you can find lists on the web for your OS) and setting the system to performance mode then you may have simply out run the life of your system.

| I had almost the exact same specs FX-53, 2gb ram, X850XT Plat with XP SP3 and never had problems. What are your video settings at? Even though your card can run a very high resolution like my current ATI HD 5770, it will slow the game a bit. I have since upgraded to a i5-750, Asus P55 mobo, HD5770, 4gb PC3 12800, 1TB WD Black, Asus 23.5" monitor. | |

| I currently only have Ultra 2x 512 MB DDR PC3200 of ram and all of my video settings are set to max. I was having the same issues when they were set low so I figured I should just rock them at high.
If its just a Ram issue I will replace the 1gb that I have now with 2 GB Ultra

Should be able to find a discount coupon online for it so I might be able to get it for under $100 but is this upgrade going to smooth things out?

| You may be limited by CPU as much as RAM. My Athlon 64 X2 at 2.4GHz (HD 4670, 3 GB RAM, XP/SP3) runs both cores at about 80% when playing a full Wake Island. At the same time BF2.exe is using about 600MB. So if you could bump up to 2GB that should help, but a dual-core would certainly help too.
In the mean time, make sure there are no other processes running. You could also experiment cutting down your graphics settings to see if they impact the CPU. (Some drivers will load the CPU as well as the GPU.)
Good luck.

I have actually read that some where else that person was running dual core and was eating up both cores almost to 100% sounds like what your saying. I dropped my video card settings all down to low and it looked like I was playing Team Fortress Classic 1.5 Honestly I wanted to see your guys input to see maybe if I was screwing up somehow. Does anybody run more then 2 cores currently? If so how does your CPU handle bf2.exe

| Im out of state on leave right now, but I will post my video settings when I get back. I personally cannot play with AA off, so I have mine set to 8x and have the dynamic stuff off. | |

| Can't remember which video card you had but the following link http://www.nhancer.com/ is great for NVIDIA cards. It also has predefined settings for popular games. | |

| Found this out on accident. But I always thought that the chip that I had in my machine was the fastest since it was the FX-53 series hell it cost me $860 for the processor which is probably the main rea$on.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103002
This processor is Dual Core, has 2x1mb L2 Cache, is 90nm, Runs at 2.6 Ghz, Apparently I can fit a Opteron 185 Dual Core processor into my mother board. Which I could probably pick up for less then $50 bucks on ebay.
This is the processor that I have right now http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103459&cm_re=64_FX-53-_-19-103-459-_-Product
Which is very similar to this one http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=n82e16819103531
Only difference between the 2 is the FX-53 is 130 nm, & has 1mb L2 Cache. The Athlon 64 3800 is 90nm, & has 512kb L2 Cache. But are running at 2.4 GHZ.
This is the type of RAM that my machine desires.

I valued it and purchasing the Ram via ebay is not worth the risk when I can get 2x1gb of ram for about $100 bucks. Then I can move this ram to my older second machine.
