Time to remember all Those who paid the ultimate sacrifice To defend our freedom
My father volunteered to go Overseas to war , And received the purpleheart in the bombing of London in 1943.
It happened something like this, My father and another private were in a bar in London in the blackout.
They went into the back of the bar to find the bathroom and found a full keg of beer unattended. Just when they were trying to figure out how to get it out of the bar passed the crowd, as a Sergeant Major came in , And ask them are you boys trying to steal this keg of beer?
So thinking they were in trouble they said yes sir.
The sergeant major laughs and says you boys will never get out of here like that.
So he took off his coat and put it over the keg of beer.
Got the two privates to pick up the beer And with the sergeant major leading the wayThrough the crowd yelling sick man.
When the soldiers in the bar saw the sergeant major stripes coming they cleared the path, So all three of them made their way to a bombed out house and proceeded to get pissed.So when they were done they decided they need to hide the empty Keg, So they walked down to the ocean and through it in.On the way back they were walking down the road My father walking in the middle and his two soldier buddies on either side of him, when a Jeep came along, With no lights on because of the black out.
The two other soldiers tried to pull my father out of the way but both of them pulled on either side and he was left in the middle, the jeep struck him and broke his leg in five places.
And because at the time London was declared a war zone he received the purpleheart.
