| So now we can say the old stupid f*&k Cut was right. Young wipper snappers never listen but you learn the hard way. EA told me personally and some still say I was wrong. Sad. | |

2 links you provided are the same and both are to rent servers. The other link is not an official site and they are talking about BF2 for xbox not PC

| They told me all servers were private and EA had none at that time. They told me "EA's" server were shut and that they were going to stop all together, support and all. My wording may have been sloppy but it still came down to what I said, "GONE" | |

Great news!
Now if EA would take the high road and GPL the source code (ala John Carmack) the community would have a much easier time keeping the patches coming.
This ought to pave the way for community-generated maps which will really juice the game experience up. Creative mappers will be able to get together and churn out map packs!
Heck, after all these years you can still load up a Quake I or II client and play an online match - entirely using open source GPLed code, maps etc.

| Thanks for the info,Blanco! IMHO is to darn soon for BF2 ends... I have downloaded BF2 PR and looks great,in gameplay,sounds,vídeo...It´s allways a possibility if everything fails, lets wait and see. In this mod:no chopper whores, airplane whores...U have to get specific kits for flying and tank driving/firing.The weapons are already unlocked,no need for hacks to improve rank and score...u have none of that.Pretty good IMHO... Cheers! | |

| I robbed a thread from WW. I don't know how much truth is in it but...
Posted 16 May 2014 - 08:03 PM Hi guys. ebug from Blue Entertainment here. After May 31st, we will have a patch that will allow you to bypass the GameSpy authentication step when you log in to BF2. You keep your existing server/IP. The only thing that changes is you authenticate with our server during the log in process instead of GameSpy's.
Our post on Facebook with the loading screen picturing Wake Island was simply a redesign of the menu, not the map itself. Changes to the maps and gameplay will come later. The BF2 community will be able to submit and vote on ideas to change, add and remove features.
We are looking to maintain support for BF2 while giving the community the power to vote on improvements and changes.
For those that weren't able to make it to tonight's meeting in our TeamSpeak, we will be posting the minutes for everyone to see.

++ There was a BF1942 mod called Desert Combat. It had missiles on the Blackhawk and axis cargo helo's. You couldn't aim them, they were basically the same ones the pilot of the cobra can fire. It also had an AC-130, which was loads of fun. Repair pad at airfield for vehicles, tanks and such. Come to think of it, it had a lot of neat weapon changes. The one thing I have always wanted in BF2, was a flame thrower https://www.google.com/search?q=bf2+desert+combat&es_sm=122&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=Pah6U9jZJ8iHogS8_IKACA&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAg&biw=1422&bih=1038&dpr=0.9#q=bf1942+desert+combat&tbm=isch

| EA has a history of shutting down support for older games too quickly, and was sued for it last August. EA has noticed that since the release of their newest Battlefield iteration, that fans still enjoy the older games, such as Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3. It is reported that they're transitioning the servers for three of the older games, that includes: Battlefield 2142, 2, and acclaimed Bad Company 2.
In the wake of GameSpy shutting their servers down, all is not lost with these beloved titles. EA is finally showing some love to their fanbase after the debacle that was the Battlefield 4 launch, which was plagued with software and server issues. EA has confirmed that they are "working on finding a transition, but still have technical hurdles to overcome. We will make an announcement when there is news to share."
Even though Battlefield 1942, and other titles are not likely to be supported after the closure of GameSpy's servers, the decision to keep the online portions of these games alive will prove to be a step toward a better future with EA, improved public response for future titles, and perhaps even longer support for newer releases such as Battlefield 4, and multi-award winning TitanFall.

+1 Getting tired of being owned by cheap air tactics like seat switching and spawn killing with choppers... And when you get 2 attack choppers on the same side doing the above...where is the fun on that?Well...the guys on the choopers have fun for sure...
