A NC State Trooper wrote:
Back in 2007 I was in Edneyville at in service training. We were having an open discussion on the Columbine Massacre. A Trooper who was close to retirement raised his hand and said he addressed this problem at his daughters school and no longer worries about her safety. The Trooper asked the principal if he could speak at the next assembly and was granted the opportunity a short time later. He stood at center court on the basketball court with the entire high school student body and faculty looking on. He was in full uniform with his campaign hat on. He stood in front of the microphone until it was silent and this is what he said: " My name is John ----- and my daughter is a freshman here. If one of you didn't get hugged enough, had your lunch money stolen or are just plain disturbed to the point you feel the need to bring a gun to school and start shooting, you are looking at the man that will be the first one here to kill you. Have a good day." And with that he walked out of the gym. That my friends, like it or not, is a deterrent.
