Hey all.

I thought it was about time I register, since something sparked my interest.
I play on the 24/7 wake island server often when I get home from work and on weekends, so I'm familiar with a few of you.
I just wanted to say that I totally respect you rules, and enjoy playing on your server.
I was just addressed about teamswitching, since it's one of my habits.
I wanted to clarify that I hadn't aknowledged that the team I was switching to was winning or losing or anything, until someone brought it to my attention.
My only intention when switching sides (and this is always at the VERY beginning of the round) was to side up with folks that I play with often in order to make the game more enjoyable (i.e. familiar voices, friends, etc.)
I can't imagine that any of you haven't ever done the same for the exact same reason.

Anywho, I will do my best to observe the recently acknowledged rule #15 but wanted to speak my mind so that you didn't think I was ignoring your rules.
I'd also like to mention that sometimes I completely miss the scrolling messages, even when they are directed towards me, just because I'm caught up in the game.

Also, if anyone can clue me in or provide a subtle suggestion of how I can go about playing on the same team with "friends" or at least those of you whom I play with often without it becoming an issue or drawing attention to myself. I try not to step on anyones toes, so I'm just trying to ask this in the politest way possible. Perhaps I can wait until teams are unbalanced, and request a team switch by an admin? If it's too much to ask, or if I'm stirring something up that I shouldn't then nevermind, I just kind of see it like when you sit at the same table as your friends at lunchtime or something, maybe it's just me. I don't play this game a ton, but when I do I stick to familiar territory (same servers, same sides with people I know, etc.).

Thanks for your time.

If I'm not mistaken, the rule was just added tonight. It was added because there's a lot of people who switch teams in the beginning of the game to the side that's been winning most often since the server doesn't auto swap teams every round. I'm not official =TFC= but I'd suggest that before you switch, make an !admin post about why you're switching and wait for the admin to acknowledge so you don't get in trouble Wink

Great response Hobbit_Pizza.. The teams switching has always been frowned upon and was an "unwritten rule" as we expect players to accept what they are dealt and play it through. If we switched teams to play with our clan members and friends then the teams would be uneven most of the time. I too get screwed when playing with a team that does not exist as a unit, or just filled with idiots waiting to fly the jet into the water. Those however are the breaks, and when it happens I try to change my play to make the most impact while relying on little or no help. Sometimes your gonna get whored! play it through, stop spawning, or take a break.
I have been playing with some of the =TFC= members for five years, I ALWAYS want to play with my fellow clan members, sucks being on the "other team"

Do not switch to the winning team, if you are able to switch at the start of the round I see no issue there. I would caution also that if you are switched in game it might be an admin switching you and not auto balance, switching back will get you booted.

Because you did not see the teams today at the starting of the rounds.
Everybody was switching.
15 vs 6
If everybody switchs at the begining of the rounds, teams will always be unbalanced and we know the result of that.

Thanks for the reply.

To clarify:

Quote :

So then is beginning of round switch not okay even if score is 0-0?
Or okay so long as the team you switch to lost the previous round?

I thought that when either joining the server, or at the beginning of each round, players get dumped or switched to wherever there are less players.
If this is the case, and players from the other team leave the game before you spawn, switching to take their place wouldn't have an impact on anyone.
I always figured that if you switched when the other team had less players than yours, it didn't fowl anyone up.

Sorry to be so OCD bout it.

Any switch unbalancing teams is not ok.
Do you really like to play rounds with unbalanced teams ?
That is not fair and it is a lack of sportmanship.

Most of the time players switch to usmc.
Imagine a round with 15 usmc vs 6 chinese players.
Round will start, usmc will cap most of the flags without a problem, including airfield.
the round will be in a last flag situation immediately.
rape will start.
players will leave the server.
This is not acceptable.

I get that. Your point is straight as an arrow, and I agree.

Unbalanced teams sucks, causes rape, and player attrition.

I think what I was getting at was if you switch to a team with less players, does that unbalance the teams?

Round starts 14 US 14 China.
1 or 2 China players leave.
1 player switches to China.

Does the above description create an unbalanced scenario?

I have been playing with the guys on this server for several years, I like to play with clan mates as well but I also stay on the team that I am assigned by the computer when I log in and the ONLY time I switch teams is when they are unbalanced.

I don't like taking an ass kicking like anyone else but I like to think that when I am on a team that is not up to par with the likes of what I would have hoped for that it makes me try to pick up my game to try to survive an attack or to repel those that are attacking.

I have been there many times on a side that could not win based on the ability of the players on a side only to watch them switch sides to be on a winning team to further hurt the team that was losing anyway and that just made a bad situation worse.

just my .02

Please take into consideration the bots and the afk's. If China has 10 players with 2 bots and 2 afk's, swithing to USA with 9 players with 1 bot is not helpful. Also consider the scores - usually it doesn't take long to tell which side is going to dominate (although quite often the tide turns in long rounds depending who joins and who leaves) switching to a team with fewer players that have higher scores is also not helpful.
E641 pretty much hit the nail on the head.

I am always trying to balance the teams the best I can.
I know our regular players and I try to be fair moving players to balance teams based on the skills.
AFK's are always kicked.
Depending on the teams, I move the bots.
If chinese lose airfield and usmc has more tickets, I move bots to usmc team.
In a last flag situation, bots are moved to usmc.
This way, I am trying to force the server to balance the teams numerically or if new players login, they login to the team with less players.

That makes more sense. I never realized that perspective until you put it that way.

I noticed the other day after a few rounds that the autobalance randomized the teams so I wasn't constantly stuck with the same people.

Don't really notice after a while, just different to get used to. Got to remember to think then act, not the other way around.

Now if I can only learn to pay more attention to the enemy's flag status while I'm flying...

It also seems like the auto-balance tends to move people who are not in a squad. Is that true? I hope so. It seems like a good idea to me.

Yes
Players not in squad are moved first.
Then if all players are in a squad, the server looks for squads with only 1 player.
All this moves are done only if teams are unbalanced and players die on the team with more players.
