My once in a life time Hit Empty
PostSubject: My once in a life time Hit   My once in a life time Hit Icon_minitimeTue Mar 11, 2014 2:57 pm

Well we all dream of stuff and I finally think I did it. I have been looking for this barn for along time and finally found it. It was full of super rare Rifle stocks that were packed in it shortly after WWII and bought at auction with other items. They kept piling them up in the barn and in the 60 and 70's guys were allowed to buy wood and sell it. No one has been in the barn since the early 80s and I wrote a story on the myth a few year back that took me 4 years to find everyone I could back then to hear about this wild story or myth as it was said. Well I found the barn and taking a trip this weekend to buy up everything in it. They think there may be near 1,000 stocks left. I have sold a few stocks from this barn for as little as $500.00 and the most expensive one out of it I sold for $7,000 If all stocks are in usable condition but nothing marked or special I will get no less than $100.00 each. But I am pretty sure I will get anywhere from $250.00 to $500.00 each then if some of the super rare early ones are in there upwards of $5,000 each for those. Wish me luck and I will not be playing at all Friday through Sunday Smile Picture of the barn with the drive plowed for me this morning and one from the owners of the stock bin upstairs. I am hoping they are ok as the owner says. Cut

He sent more pictures and they do not look as good damage wise as he said. Dirty is not a big deal but if the repairs I have to make are extensive the value decreases for originality Smile I am hopeful though.

Finally getting order to them 2,000 in this picture and about 2,000 more to go. Also sold one that is so rare only 6 now are known to exist. Sold it to a freind for $6,500 or it would have been $10,000 Total sales so far is $20,000 with only 5 sold. Lots of Trench art also. Cut

As a gunsmith, I am quit jealous of your find. Are you sure you should be cleaning those up though?

Yes and I am known all over the world for one of the safest for doing this preserving all markings and age as much as possible. They are all Linseed oiled and need maintenance either way just like the G.I.'s did to them. Many times I repair and fix a stock only working on the bad area leaving the finish in place. In many cases I have brought the value of these way above what they were before they came to me. My name appears on Ebay and Gun Broker and the value soars which upsets some collectors as they are knocked out of the bidding due to the higher value. Rick B

Good. Just wanted to make sure you knew what you had there and what you were doing.
When I get back to alaska from my texas adventure I will show you my collection. I wonder if a person could track down the guy who carved that one from texas or his family. That might be pretty interesting.
